KILZ is a well-known brand of paint and primer, offering a range of products for interior and exterior use. One of its key advantages is its ability to act as a sound undercoat for paint, enhancing the topcoat's performance. KILZ products are designed to adhere well to various surfaces, including masonry, metal, and wood. They are also effective at blocking stains, sealing odours, and resisting mildew. However, some users have expressed concerns about its stain-blocking capabilities, particularly with the KILZ 2 primer. KILZ Original Primer
KILZ Original is a fast-drying, oil-based sealer that effectively blocks severe stains such as tannin bleed, graffiti, smoke, fire, and water stains. It also helps seal odours, including pet, smoke, and food odours. The product is available in gallons, fives, and aerosol, making it convenient for small paint projects and spot priming.
When using KILZ Original Primer, it is essential to ensure that the surfaces are clean and free of dust, chalk, oil, mould, mildew, and rust. The primer should be applied when the surface and air temperatures are between 35°F (2°C) and 90°F (32°C). After priming, it is recommended to test for stain bleed-through by applying the topcoat to a small section. If the stain persists, a second coat of primer may be necessary.

KILZ COMPLETE COAT®
Before painting with KILZ COMPLETE COAT®, it is important to properly prepare the surface. This includes removing any loose or peeling paint and washing off any dirt or grease with a non-soapy detergent or a TSP substitute. Glossy surfaces must be scuff sanded with appropriate sandpaper prior to coating. New stucco, plaster and masonry should be allowed to cure for at least 30 days before priming and painting.
When using KILZ COMPLETE COAT®, ensure that the surface and air temperatures are between 50-90°F. Stir the paint occasionally and intermix containers of the same product to ensure colour and sheen uniformity. For application, use a high-quality synthetic brush or 3/8"-1/2" synthetic roller. For heavily textured surfaces, such as stucco, a 3/4" roller is recommended.
The coverage of KILZ COMPLETE COAT® is 300-350 sq. ft. per gallon on smooth surfaces and 200-300 sq. ft. per gallon on rough surfaces. If desired, a recoat can be applied after 4 hours. The paint dries to the touch in 2 hours at 77° F and 50% R.H., or longer in cooler temperatures and/or higher humidity.
