He grew up working for his family's feed and fertilizer business, and some of his relatives hauled pipe out of the Houston area during the 1950s and 60s. In 1985, Stevenson and his father, Bill, founded Custom Commodities Transport, a trucking company based in Texas. Stevenson himself used to haul feed in a cab-over Peterbilt truck.

Custom Commodities Transport acquired Elliott Truck Line in 2009. Elliott Truck Line was founded by Vince Elliott in 1946, after he served 4 and a half years in the Armed Forces. Elliott started with a single 1946 International tractor and a 20-foot Trailmobile, hauling livestock. Over time, the company diversified into the tank transportation business and the transportation of liquid and dry products in bulk.

Stevenson strives to be innovative and access the newest technologies to improve safety for drivers and the general public, as well as improve customer service. Stevenson has a CDL and occasionally operates trucks himself.
